He was born on February 12, 1953 in Krakow. In 1975 he graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University. In 1980 he obtained a PhD in legal sciences and ten years later a postdoctoral degree. In 2001 he obtained the title of professor of legal sciences. He is the head of the Department of Forensics of the Jagiellonian University. In the years 2003–2008 he was deputy dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration.
