An American lawyer, an outstanding expert on comparative criminal law, professor at Saint Louis University School of Law.

He graduated from law at the University of California in Berkeley - in 1968 (BA), 1969 (MA), and in 1975 at this university he obtained the degree of doctor of law (JD). In 1992 he also obtained a PhD in law from the Albert-Ludwig-University in Freiburg. He was a consultant in the reform of procedural criminal law of Russia, Latvia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Indonesia. He is fluent in six languages ​​(English, German, Russian, French, Spanish and Italian). He lectured in 26 countries on five continents, in matters of criminal law in the US and comparative criminal law - including he lectured at the Free University of Berlin, was a scholarship holder at the Max-Planck Institute in Freiburg, and is currently a member of the Scientific Council of the Max Planck Institute. He was a visiting professor at the University of Orleans in France, the University of Bologna, the National University of Singapore and the University of in Buenos Aires. He is the author of numerous publications on comparative criminal law, in particular procedural law - in many languages. He is an attorney at California, a member of the American Bar Association.
